Gargoyle geckos make an excellent choice for the beginner or
advanced hobbyist.

These
are the smallest of the genus Rhacodactylus. They inhabit
forested areas, hiding under tree bark and in crevices during the day,
emerging at night to hunt. They are strong jumpers and climbers,
arboreal hiding areas should be provided. Unique in appearance and easy
to care for, these geckos have become very well established in the pet
trade.

Variable, 8 to 10
inches.
Origin: This
species occur only on the southern third of Grande Terre, the island
that comprises the majority of the territory of New
Caledonia
Temperament:
Shy, nocturnal but is known to bask during the day.
Feeding: A variety of small
insects and arthropods coated with a high quality vitamin/mineral
addittive is eagerly accepted. They will also eat fruit flavored baby
food, apricot, peach and blueberry are favorites, and vitamin or
mineral supplements are easily mixed
in.
Note of Interest:
The genus Rhacodactylus was considered extinct until rediscovered in
1994 by two individual parties.
